Today, I walked over 6 miles averaging my fastest speed yet. I was pretty proud of myself because I had reached 5 miles fairly close to the end of my normal route. I went ahead and just went up and down some roads near my house and right when I was about to just call it a morning, my phone let me know I had reached 6 miles. I was in pretty high spirits as I crossed the street in front of my house. I jokingly thought that it would be ironic if I managed to go the 6 miles without incident (even avoiding a skunk that was running around this morning) and then get myself hit by a car in front of my house. As I chuckled at myself, I didn’t quite lift my foot high enough to clear the curb. (Pictures Below!)
My view after missing the step up onto the curb in front of my house. You can kind of make out where I bounced my head off my driveway.
So why am I sharing this? Well, I saw some parallels to my week. I didn’t walk every day that I normally do this week. I took a day off telling myself that it was good to give my body a rest (I wasn’t even tired). Basically, I had let my guard down and eased up on my determination of what I’m trying to accomplish. I forgot that my natural tendencies are to take the easy road and not bother with changing my lifestyle. Just as I eased up today after getting in the mindset of “hey, good job, all is well” it was easy for me to justify relaxing during the week because I had been doing so well.
This was a good lesson to learn. I’m hoping that the next lesson I need doesn’t need to be as embarrassing or painful!
I am sorry to read of your mishap.
Being able to find a lesson in it is inspiring,
