So I needed to take Monday off from walking to heal some pain that was limiting my ability to walk. Because yesterday was a planned “off-day” I had turned off my alarm. Last night I forgot to turn my alarm back on. What’s a guy to do when he forgets something simple like that and just isn’t going to randomly wake up that early on his own?
So here’s the neat part, and some of you might just write this off as a coincidence, but I don’t. Last night, before going to sleep, I said my prayers. One of the things I specifically prayed for was the ability to be able to wake up early so I could exercise. Normally I’m good at self-monitoring this with my alarm, but I forgot last night.
I believe that God wants me to take care of my body. In the bible we’re told that our bodies are temples. I like to think that I’m currently in the process of cleansing my temple in a similar (figurative) manner that Christ cleansed the temple on a couple of occasions in Jerusalem. So when I pray for help to exercise, I believe that my will and the Lord’s will are on the same page.
Well, this morning I was in danger of sleeping straight through my exercise time. I normally wake up at about 3:30 am so I can get everything done that I need to in the morning (do we understand WHY I might just sleep through without an alarm?). Well, at 3:45 am, our little pug runs into our room and starts jumping up and whimpering at my side of the bed.
Of the two rooms she could come from, one had a baby gate still firmly in place and the other room had the door shut tight. It doesn’t matter much to me HOW she got out of one of those rooms. But she got out (when she’s normally dead to the world) ran over to me and woke me up. I put her back in my boys’ room and she went straight to sleep on their bed. I saw what time it was and got myself up and exercised.
As I said, some people will write this off as coincidence or a lucky happenstance. For me though, God answered my prayers in helping me to continue working on my physical health.
