It’s been about 3 months since my last post. Now, as history of my blog has witnessed, you would be COMPLETELY within reason to assume that I fell off the old workout wagon. You would also be making reasonable assumptions based off of the reason that I stopped writing. I wasn’t seeing progress! I plateaued! I was working out, but over the span of about 5 months, I had only lost about 10 pounds. And this was down from my PEAK weight. That’s normally when you’re supposed to be able to drop in droves, especially when you consider the *ahem* excess amounts I could lose. My workouts weren’t getting me the results I wanted. Things that I had done before with ease were causing me injuries. It was mentally exhausting. I didn’t have a clue what I could write about that wouldn’t just sound like complaining about my lack of success. So, I abandoned writing for awhile.
But I didn’t abandon working out! Instead, I switched things up. Since July I’ve been going to the gym and doing some weightlifting. What’s made it easier has been my wife and oldest boys coming. I have accountabilibuddies! The other thing that has helped is that the school year started up again. I’m up and moving around through the day much more than during the summer, or anytime since early March of 2020.
I don’t even know if I’m doing things right. I focus mainly on my upper body working all of the muscle groups. I also give myself rest time between lifting days. I’ve always read that weightlifting offered some of the best opportunities to lose weight because muscle burns more calories while at rest. But I’m sure I could be doing it better than I am. Nevertheless…I have had success! Where during the first five months I had only lost 5 pounds, over the past two months, I’ve lost an additional 15 pounds! Interestingly, I haven’t lost it where I just gained all of the weight during the quarantine. But I’m feeling encouraged again. Enough so to write!
Sometimes we just have to persevere. Sometimes we need to try something new. Last time, I just completely gave up. Not this time!
