Yesterday, I decided to go on a long walk. Longer than what I had done before. It had been about 3 weeks since my previous long walk (six miles) and I wanted to do something more. So I started off at about 7 am and started walking. I walked around the majority of Green Valley Ranch. I walked through a work site in northern GVR where they’re building a hotel. Apparently I wasn’t suppose to walk through it (or so the security guard told me on the other side…oops?). Odd side note, I saw about 25 dead bee’s throughout my walk on sidewalks. Is that normal?
By the time I got home, it was after 10 am and my wife was a little worried because I normally am not walking that late into the day. I felt alright for about 30 minutes, and then became extremely nauseous, sweaty, and weak. Oh yeah, did I mention that I didn’t take any water with me on my three hour walk? Nor had I eaten anything beforehand. I know, I know, not the brightest idea. I’ve learned my lesson!
Anyway, here are my stats from that walk:
Miles: 10.22
Steps: About 23,000
Time: 3 hours 15 minutes (would have been faster except for the conversation with the security guard and running into a former student)
Below is a the map of where I walked. The orange part I had to draw on because my phone died.

Sorry for the blurriness.
So the lesson I learned is this. While I might be able to bust out 3 and 6 mile walks without much sustenance, my body has a limit of what it can accomplish via sheer willpower. Obviously that is something I’ve known on an academic level. It’s been taught to me many different times. But actually physically realizing that the rules of biology applied to my body, was a necessary and slightly unpleasant lesson.
I’ve been able to apply to my life spiritually as well. Many times I think I try to attack everything I need to do trusting that I’ll be able to accomplish everything through sheer willpower. But if I’m not consistently nourishing myself with the Living Water of Christ, I can likewise find myself weak and spiritually nauseous.
I love being able to apply lessons to my life. Deciding to work to better myself physically has helped me to increase my rate of education in ways that I never before considered.
Thank you for the update, and nice work!
With the cooler temps, bees will start kicking out the drones, but I think it is a little early in the year still. Looks like temps are still in the mid 50s there. It is also possible someone sprayed a pesticide that they succumbed to. There are also several parasites that will make themselves known late in the year like this.
While not an ideal activity every time, pushing ourselves physically is a good thing. It teaches us out limits, but it also strengthens our body so that the next time it will be better able to support the activity. In following your theme, I believe this is also true with things spiritual. I am amazed at how many parallels between strengthening physically and strengthening spiritually.
Keep up the great work!
