#19 Accountability

It’s been a bit since I’ve written due to finishing up the year, beginning for the summer vacation, and my own general laziness! But I wanted to come make a post as I had set some goals.

To put it succinctly, I wasn’t able to reach my weight-loss goal. There were varying factors. Part of it was discouragement of not seeing results as quickly as I hoped. Part of it was recurring minor injuries that prevented me from doing everything that I would have liked to do. Those two coupled together also led to me not doing everything that I could have done. I want to own that. But I also want to own that I think I was looking at my goal setting incorrectly. I was focused more on the results than my own inputs. But as I’ve come to recognize in my weight-loss journey over the past couple of months, I don’t have full control over my results and the timing of them. It’s one of the more inconvenient truths that it seems like we can gain weight more rapidly than lose weight.

I’m still encouraged on goal setting, and plan on having weight-loss goals. But I think I will focus more on input goals, such as how much I have exercised and types of exercise in a given week. I’m also excited to work on a schedule that I’ll be able to maintain throughout summer and prep to use as I go back into the school year.

Currently, my exercise is primarily through VR workouts. I had been walking, but that was consistently causing me to have hip flexor (I assume) issues. I would get home from a walk and not be able to lift my left leg to go up the stairs normally. This also spiralled into some regular issues where just doing minimal activities at work would make it that once I was sitting in my car, I had to physically pick up my left leg to get it in. Not fully sure on the issue because it’s not constant. Regardless, VR has allowed me to get high intensity workouts and get my heart pumping more than what walking would do. I’m also interested in going to lift weights again as I know that helps to build lean muscle which burns weight faster.

To start off, I’m going to set the goal of doing VR exercise at least 20 minutes a day (and I’ll build up from there). Next week, I’m going to build out a schedule for myself to go to the gym at least 3 times a week to lift weight. Is there anything else my readers would recommend?

I should also touch a bit on eating habits. Since February, I have done a pretty good job on cutting out sodas, ice cream, and extra sugar out of my diet. Well, until I went on vacation last week, then I kind of let it hang loose. Weirdly, I didn’t have any change in my weight from when I wasn’t partaking of those to when I was doing so last week on a trip to see family in Oregon. I’ll admit that the thought of “why bother then?” crossed my mind, but I also know that those sweets can easily be a slippery slope in general and also more so for me. So I’m going to continue limiting them from my diet.

I also wanted to put a plug out there that if there are any topics that my readers would like me to tackle, please leave me suggestions in the comments. I would love to branch out from just chronicling my journey! So if you have any thoughts, send them my way! I’m planning on doing a review of the VR app that I’m using in the next week or two, so stay tuned!
